Sylvia Henderson and Dawn Shuler discuss how aligning the right people with the right job responsibilities matters greatly to the individual and the organization. They also talk about how assessments and an Idea MindTeam® can help your people and company move forward more productively and profitably.
[1:26] Right people in the right seats. The “right person” is one who has the same values as the organization. The “right seat” is your ability to do the job.
[2:00] Bring your strengths and talents to the job you’re doing.
[3:35] Being aware of what each other is good at helps us “row the boat in the same direction”. Have clear goals and objectives while utilizing and developing your talents.
[4:50] Purpose of an Idea MindTeam is to work on individual issues together. There may be specific project teams, but an Idea MindTeam is to work real time across functions. Solve an issue to get ideas figured out and move projects forward.
[6:29] Value of an Idea MindTeam to an organization can help an employee get unstuck so they make their deadlines and don’t hold up important projects.
[8:00] An example of how this benefits an employee is getting past a roadblock within their project team. They can get feedback from someone with outside perspective, with vested interest to you and the organization, but not within your specific department.
[9:45] An Idea MindTeam focuses on issues and challenges that individuals may face and provide them help, suggestions, ideas, and resources.
[11:20] An Idea MindTeam provides internal resources to people already inside your organization without having to get someone from the outside. This leads to more engagement, higher productivity, and greater profits.
[16:10] Idea MindTeam facilitators are trained to coach and encourage members and bring out the members ideas and questions. There is a process to this, but part of it is creating a SAFE & TRUSTING environment.
[18:00] Keep members safe and protected, but still being transparent. Additionally, a system to report to management without breaching trust.
[21:00] Facilitating an Idea MindTeam is an opportunity to practice and develop leadership skills.
[22:12] Value of any assessment is a shared language. Each assessment has its place, but assessing and focusing on strengths instead of our weaknesses will help us perform at a higher level.
[24:08] Talent multiples your knowledge and experience. What’s your zone of genius? How do we give our people, our most precious resource, the opportunity to utilize their strengths?
[27:54] An example is when an organization can tap into their people’s strengths. There is a talent called “INPUT”, which is a natural thirst for information. This person can be a valuable resource to people within the company.
[28:50] When management knows their peoples’ strengths and help them align with their job, they feel valued and engaged.
